Cuba, August 2007 -
Havana
|
 |
Havana
has been the capital of Cuba for more than 400 years and it is home
to around 2 million people.
After
reading various literature, we decided that 2 nights would be enough
to see the main tourist things although if you have time to explore
more, Havana appears to be a very interesting city.

Old Havana
Old
Havana is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is a fascinating area
of the city. The area contains a number of public squares surrounded
but magnificent buildings, some dating back nearly 500 years. |

Getting Around
Old
Havana is small enough to walk around although take your hat and
take your time as it does get very hot walking around. To explore
Havana, we hired a horse-drawn carriage for 3 hours (20CUC per hour)
and the guide took us around to a couple of places including the
Revolution Square.

Museums
There are
a huge number of museums in and around Old Havana ranging from very
small single rooms such as Hemingway's room in the Hotel Ambos
Mundos to larger ones like the Museo de la Revolucion (Revolution
Museum). We had free admission cards to the museums as part of our
hotel booking.

Street Music
Havana is
famous for its music and you will see little quartets (or groups of
different sizes) in various places entertaining the public. Quite
often they will have CDs of their music for sale.
