Big Blue Marble

In 1972, the crew of Apollo 17 took a photo of our planet from a distance of around 28,000 miles. The spaceship was far enough away to allow them to see the entire planet and the image has gone on to be one of the most widely distributed in history. The view the astronauts got showed the illuminated planet in all its glory with the South Pole and Africa easily identifiable.

The wisps of cloud and the blue oceans gave Earth an appearance similar to that of a blue, glass marble. This blog is all about the many wonderful places on our Big Blue Marble. Although, we may never get to share the same perspective as the astronauts of Apollo 17, we hope to show you through words and pictures, there are still many wonderful places on this planet.
